ICONIC news anchor Noxolo Grootboom has come out of retirement.
She’s returning to TV as one of the Xhosa newsreaders for Newzroom Afrika’s nguni news, Izindaba Zethu/Iindaba Zethu.
Noxolo made headlines in 2021 when she announced that she was going into retirement and was leaving the SABC after 37 years as a news anchor and producer.
The announcement about her new venture and return was made on Thursday, 22 February.

Noxolo will be working alongside other seasoned journalists and broadcasters such as Lisakhanya Pepe, Thabile Mbhele, Dicksy Mdlalose, Thabile Makapela, and Pumza Sikumba.
Speaking about her return, Grootboom said coming back is an honour for her.
“Being part of this wonderful project is an honour for me. My retirement is not of the ordinary kind, because it means me coming to plough back into this new era of news,” she said.
“Seeing these young people being so enthusiastic and embracing our mother tongue makes me proud and I hope that they will also pave the way for the next generation of news anchors.”
The news will officially start on Monday, 27 February on Mzansi Wethu (DStv Channel 163) at 7pm.
