Actress Nolwazi Shange has made a TV comeback.

The talented actress has joined Mzansi Magic’s drama series Mzali Wam.

She plays the role of Sbongile, who will stop at nothing to save her family.

Nolwazi told SunBuzz: “I have been longing to make a comeback, and it’s amazing to be on screen.

“When I received a call to be part of the show, I had just gained an angel in heaven – I had just buried my grandmother.

“I remember immediately saying to myself that she didn’t waste time as she was already opening doors for me.”

Nolwazi described her role as the villain of the show.

“Sbongile is a mum who steals someone’s baby.

“Every decision she makes, subsequently, is to save her family and keep her child. She’s definitely the villain and an obstacle in everyone’s way.”

She said keeping up with her character’s emotions was challenging.

“Sbongile’s journey is an emotional one. There’s little breathing room for her because she understands the battle she’s in.

“If there was any challenge, it was keeping up with her emotions because I found myself very emotionally drained at times.”

Although it’s bittersweet that her grandparents – who raised her – are not here to witness her comeback, Nolwazi believes that they are proud of her.

“A few years ago I won a Safta award just after losing my grandfather. Now I’m making my TV return and my grandmother is not here to see it, too. It’s bittersweet, but I know they’re proud.

“They were the first people to believe in my talent and that being an actor is what I should do. I would not be here if it wasn’t for them.”

She said that although her character’s decisions were questionable, people were going to realise that she’s a good person.

“Even though Sbongile makes questionable decisions, she has a good core.

“She knows exactly what she wants and will stop at nothing to attain it.

“I believe that a lot of people will love and resonate well with that about her as many South Africans have a good fighting spirit. We always fight for what we want,” Nolwazi said.
