Namibian amapiano trio The Musketeers have taken over Mzansi with their new single, Danko.

The group, made up of Georgio “DJ Jojo” Van Wyk, Tangi “DJ Skull” Nghipetekwa and Tokyo “DJ Zonesh” Manjara, released the song last month and it had people on social media asking whether they’re from Mzansi.

Speaking to SunBuzz, DJ Zonesh cleared the confusion.

“We understand what the confusion is about because danko is a common slang in South Africa. But we use it too here in Namibia. It also means thank you,” he said.

“How the song came about was that we all fell in love with amapiano.

“We started off as individual DJs, and we thought we could work together by combining our sounds and create something new and wholesome which is different from what the industry currently offer. We think we did it with this song,” he said.

He said now that they’re a group, they aim to make music that’ll speak to people.

“We make music because it helps us escape reality. It allows us to think and simply live in the moment. We have a philosophy that music is the only thing that speaks to you when everything else is unable to,” said Zonesh.

He said that they’re proud of themselves.

“Our highlights so far is the fact that we just started this journey last year and we’ve made waves not just in Namibia, but beyond the border,” said Zonesh.

The trio is working on their debut album.
