THE South African Music Week is set to hold its annual three-day event, to empower the youth.

It will be held at the Soweto Theatre from 16 to 18 November.

Founder and CEO Michael Moeti told SunBuzz that the event was inspired by the Canadian Music Week.

“This is an international trade programme that consists of a festival, conference, trade tech expo, business-to-business, awards and export directory publishing.”

He said the objective was also to empower small businesses with opportunities in the music industry value chain.

“The success of artists such as Black Coffee, Master KG and Makhadzi is testimony to the global success of local artists. Soweto Theatre will revive the township economy and create opportunities for the youth,” he said.

Michael said their objectives were aligned to the government’s strategy of reviving the township economy.

“Youth and small businesses would benefit from experts,” he said, adding that mentorship and bursaries would be on offer for up-and-coming artists.
