LEGENDARY musicians Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Abigail Kubeka are set to be honoured with big awards at the first Basadi in Music Awards (Bima) this coming weekend.
They have been announced as recipients of the Bima South African Music Performance Rights Association (Sampra) Lifetime Award.
The ceremony will be held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Joburg, on Saturday, 15 October.

Speaking about honouring the two icons, Bima CEO Hloni Modise-Matau said they had made history, hence they were receiving the awards.
“One cannot dispute the contribution that Abigail and Yvonne have made to the music industry. They have changed history with their craft and broken through glass ceilings so women in music today are able to soar,” she said.
“We are honoured to be presenting them with Lifetime Awards because their influence in evolving musical genres ensures that we are able to enjoy cultural diversity through music,” she said.
Sampra chief marketing officer Tiyani Maluleke said: “Congratulations to the cradle and beacon of all women in our industry. We see you, Mama Africa. We see you, Mama Abigail. We are proud to be a sponsor of a category as prestigious as you both are. What a momentous occasion!” she said.

TV presenters Nomuzi Mabena and Anele Zondo will be hosting the event.
Nominees for DJ of the Year are DJ Zinhle, DBN Gogo, Lamiez Holworthy, Lerato Kganyago and Lesego M while those for Traditional Artist of the Year are Basetsana Ba Setso, Candy Tsa Mandebele, Mphoroku Moritini, Ntunja and Zipho Radebe. Nominees for Gospel Artist of the Year are Bathabile Skhosana, Chairo, Mmatema, Puleng March and Tsusie. SunGirl Doreen Molefe has also been nominated for Entertainment Journalist of the Year.
