DESPITE a few hiccups, the memorial service of Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo was a celebration of his life.
The service, which was held at the eThekwini Community Church in Durban, started at 11am.
But Mampintsha’s mother, Zamanguni Gumede, and his sister, Pinki, were not in attendance when it started.

Instead, they were only fetched after 1pm after Daily Sun’s intervention and by the time they arrived, the programme had long started and they were not included.
Heavily armed private security guards were on standby during the proceedings.
Celebrations and music were the order of the day.
Mampintsha’s widow, Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane, even danced when their songs played.
His new song, Ngeke, was also played repeatedly as a send-off.
Mampintsha’s friends took turns singing his praises.
Danger, his friend and fellow Big Nuz member, said: “All my colleagues have left me. I’m now all by myself and I’m saddened. Fortunately, Bhar, who is one of our friends, is still around and that is consoling.”

He went on to thank DJ Tira for uniting them.
“We thank Tira for bringing us together. I promise to continue respecting the craft and the industry as a whole,” he said.
Tira said: “When I formed Big Nuz they were actually in Joburg. I saw their potential and decided to call them back to Durban.
“We worked together and I am proud to say they have been releasing hit after hit. Mampintsha might be gone, but his legacy lives on.”
He urged people to vote for Mampintsha’s song as it is nominated in the Ukhozi FM Top 10 competition.
The funeral service will take place at Durban’s ICC on Friday, 30 December.
