THIS year marks 47 years since the 1976 Soweto Youth Uprising and Miss South Africa Top 12 will join the rest of Mzansi to commemorate the day.
The finalists shared what this day means to them and what they'll be doing.
Homba Mazaleni (23), who represents the Eastern Cape, said she'll spend the day organising cricket matches for women.
"On youth day, I'll spend my time organising women's cricket matches, promoting inclusion and empowering female athletes in my community. The day starts with preparations, getting equipment and encouraging young women to participate.
"Through sports, barriers dissolve and women find their voices. These connections and experiences provide the foundation for ongoing initiatives that advance gender equality and support the talents of young people. Youth Day inspires me to advocate for equal opportunities and empower youth to make a lasting impact," Homba said.
Kealeboga Nkashe (27) said the day shows her how strong the youth of Mzansi are.

"Youth Day is a reminder to me of how much power the youth of Mzansi have and how much strength there is in numbers. It is therefore important to mark this day as we celebrate the passing of the baton to the youth of 2023."It is a recognition of the responsibility we have as youth now, and a call for us to stand up and use our power by standing up against injustice and continue the race for an inclusive, truly diverse and free South Africa," Kealeboga said.
Lungo Katete (26), who won the public vote, said: "Over the years, I have celebrated Youth Day with my family and those I care about. Every year we make the effort to buy different ingredients, braai and prepare a feast that we can enjoy as a family.
"This shared moment gives us the opportunity to recognise the remarkable people who have fought for a better future and left a lasting mark on our society. These moments of togetherness and remembrance make Youth Day a precious and meaningful experience for me and my family."
The winner will be crowned by Miss SA 2022, Ndavi Nokeri, on Sunday, 13 August, at the SunBet Arena in Tshwane.
