Mihlali Mzilwa wants to empower young girls and redefine beauty.
Mihlali Mzilwa wants to empower young girls and redefine beauty.

MIHLALI Mzilwa from Soweto made it to Miss Inspire SA semi-finalist for 2023/24.

The 20-year-old young woman from Mofolo North in Soweto said she advocates for women empowerment and is thriving to fight poverty in the townships through pageantry.

She told Daily Sun that Miss Inspire SA is an empowerment pageant that redefines beauty.

It’s a self-development and leadership pageant that allows girls from all over Mzansi to enter regardless of their flaws or imperfections.

Mihlali said she is a child of God before anything else, adding that she is a philanthropist and a Miss Inspire SA semi-finalist who is eager to make a difference in the community by making young girls believe in themselves regardless of their looks.

Describing herself, Mihlali said: “I’m just a kind and caring girl who puts other people's needs first and is always willing to lend a helping hand. I live by a quote that says, 'A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle', meaning you don’t lose anything by helping the next person. What also keeps me going is a scripture from 1 John 4:4, which reads 'Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world',”

She said when contesting for Miss Inspire SA, she took a leap of faith.

“What made me join the pageant are their morals and how they perceive a queen. They do not discriminate, and they allow girls from all over South Africa, with all their imperfections, to join and make a change in the society,” she said.

In making a difference in her community, Mihlali said she donated over 100 pads to Aurora Girls High School in Soweto with the help of the Ndalo pioneer NPO, which was a heartwarming experience for her to see how delighted the girls were just to receive the pads.

“It’s very pleasing to put a smile on someone’s face and make an impact in someone’s life. I’m also going to be donating clothes at Takalani Orphanage home in Diepkloof before the end of this month as I’ve been dedicated to collecting clothes for donations. I’ve also visited kids and donated some snacks just to make them happy,” she said.
