A MEMBER of the Mhlongo family has come out in defence of the Shaka iLembe crew.
Mbhengi Mhlongo told Daily Sun he invited actress Nomzamo Mbatha and the entire crew to visit Queen Nandi’s grave.
The admission came after his cousin, Mhlathuze, Induna Ngelemu Mdlalose and Chief Mshazi Nzuza accused Nomzamo and the Shaka iLembe crew of invading Queen Nandi’s grave without permission.
“I am in charge of Queen Nandi’s grave. Nomzamo and the Shaka iLembe crew never consulted me and we are deeply offended by their conduct,” said Mhlathuze at the time.

But Mbhengi has decided to take accountability for the visit.
“I am reacting to the news that Nomzamo Mbatha and Shaka iLembe crew invited themselves to Queen Nandi’s grave.
“This is not true. I’m the one who invited the Shaka iLembe crew.”
“They did not invite themselves as alleged. I wanted them to be there with us,” he said.
He said they were having a commemoration of Queen Nandi and decided to invite the TV crew.
Daily Sun has seen an invitation letter and it reads as follows: “Sir/Madam. I, on behalf of Elangeni Royal Princesses and Nkosazane Nandi WaseLangeni Foundation, hereby cordially invite you to the historic commemoration of our Royal Princess Nandi kaMbhengi kaMhlongo, mother of King Shaka kaSenzangakhona. The event is scheduled as follows: Date: 9 October 2022. Place: Vuma Community Hall. Time: 10am-13.30pm.Public will be transported by bus from the hall to the grave of Princess Nandi at Matheku and then brought back to the hall.We will highly appreciate your presence.”
Nomzamo and the crew went to the grave as part of the commemoration.

“I am offended because Queen Nandi belongs to the Mhlongos and not to an individual or local indunas. I can go to Queen Nandi’s grave anytime I want to and I don’t need permission to visit her grave. . Mhlathuze is my older brother but he cannot dictate to usHe cannot claim to be in charge of the grave,” said Mhlongo.
But Mhlathuze hit back and said: “Mbhengi cannot claim the grave because his father destroyed it. I then took it upon myself to fix it.If he continues to go there I’ll have no option but to lock it up.”
