MASKANDI artist Xolani “Shilisi” Langa has been kicked out of school.
The 38-year-old grade 11 pupil at Bongumenzi High School in Nqutu, KZN, was told to pack up and leave because he was too old.
Xolani dropped out of school in the 1990s to pursue a music career but earlier this year, he decided to return.
At the time, Daily Sun reported that he had even bought a school uniform and was attending classes.
“I’m the oldest in the school and these kids are excited to have a maskandi celebrity among them,” he said earlier in the year.
However, education department officials were not impressed and expelled him, advising him to find a school for adults.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Shilisi said: “I was called and informed that I must stop going to school because I am too old. They said the day school is for children and suggested I attend a school for adults.

“I am offended because I did not go back to school to play and I was enjoying being behind the desk. I chose to go to a day school with kids because it was closer to home.”
KZN Education Department spokesman Muzi Mahlambi confirmed that Shilisi was too old for a normal school.
“He still has options, such as doing distance learning through other institutions,” he said.
