MASKANDI music rivals Mthandeni Manqele and Khuzani Mpungose took their fight to a higher level on Saturday night, 12 August.
The two heavyweights left their fans with an endless debate about who was the best at the Impucuzeko Maskandi Festival which took place at the People Park Stadium in Durban.
Mthandeni, who hasn't performed at the festival in years, entered the stage lifted up by his fans and told the audience that he is the maskandi king.
Khuzani, who had a golden hour, started his performance lifted up by an elevation machine resembling that of EFF president Julius Malema at the EFF 10th birthday anniversary on 29 July 2023.
Mthandeni said for him, the night was to celebrate his comeback as the king of maskandi at the festival after many years of not performing.

“The event was fully packed because I have come back to perform. I’m a maskandi king and I don’t want noise about that.
“There is no dispute about the maskandi king's throne. I’m the king,” he said.
Khuzani said he doesn't want anyone asking him who is the king because his performance made it clear.
“No more debates now. Everyone who attended the festival saw that I'm the real maskandi king and I made history.
“Those who hate me can say whatever they want but I’m the real king of maskandi and those who hesitate can watch what I did,” he said.
The festival was celebrating 10 years and was attended by Minister of Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa.
