IT LOOKS like the legal war between singer Makhadzi and sneaker brand Kicks Sportswear is far from over.

A statement was issued by Makhadzi’s production company Open Mic Production, over the R8,2 million lawsuit filed by the brand over her alleged failure to promote Kokovha Sneakers. Kokovha is a sneaker brand produced by Kicks Sportswear.

Now, Kicks Sportswear has contacted a legal team, claiming that the statement was false and disappointing.

This all started when the company entered into a multimillion agreement with Makhadzi last October, to promote the sneakers by wearing them at her shows, being the brand ambassador and posting about them on social media.

But according to Kicks Sportswear, Makhadzi failed to do so, positioning herself in breach of the agreement.

After the lawsuit, Open Mic issued a statement, claiming that Kicks Sportswear was the one in breach of the agreement, claiming that it failed to deliver sneakers to Makhadzi and avail itself when she tried to communicate. And, this statement broke Kicks’ silence. In a statement seen by Daily Sun, the brand pointed fingers back at Makhadzi.

“We are aware of the statement made by Open Mic, and are disappointed at the false and damaging allegations. Given the severity of the allegations, Kicks Sportswear has referred this matter to its legal team, best equipped to continue handling the matter further,” read the statement.

Kicks Sportswear claimed that it was Makhadzi who was unavailable for meetings, hence it went the legal route. The brand said it was in possession of all communication, that would be presented in court.

“After failing numerous times to promote the brand as per agreement, we requested several meetings with her and her team, sent a posting schedule and created a WhatsApp group to correspond regarding the agreement. Despite all this, Makhadzi was still unavailable to effectively meet her end of the bargain.”

The statement further said Kicks Sportswear would not be commenting further on the matter.
