THE Major League DJz are back home for a little while after months of touring.

The Dinaledi hitmakers have toured all four corners of the world and are currently home for business.

The twins, whose names are Bandile and Banele Mbere (33), will be hosting their popular event Balcony Mix on 16 March at Zoo Lake.

Bandile and Banele spoke to Daily Sun about travelling the world and working with big-name artists.

They said their favourite countries and cities so far are New York, Spain, London and Mykonos.

“We love the way people are accepting the music because amapiano is a fairly new genre. We took a huge step into the global space. Amapiano isn’t even the main genre. It’s a sub-pocket of many genres in the world but people have accepted it. And that acceptance is amazing.

“People love the log drum. Every song has a log drum now which started in the genre amapiano. It’s a lovely experience,” Bandile said.

He said they love to see how amapiano was growing and changing.

“I’ve enjoyed seeing how people love the rhythm. I think the rhythm that comes from South Africa is one that other people can’t do. It’s something no other country will be able to do like us. And the world is accepting it and taking it. Even we as South Africans can’t believe how big it has grown.

“To think amapiano is not even 10 years old yet, but it’s done more than any other genre that has come out of South Africa. There’s still a lot of growth and it'll change within itself, and it’s still going to evolve. We also see a lot of women are becoming DJs of the genre, and it’s something we should celebrate as a country and as a continent,” he said.

They were recently featured in Usher’s new project titled Ruin. They did a remix of the song.

“We know the family there, we know Uncle LA Reid (American music executive), we’ve worked with his team for a while. They recently signed Usher to their team, and they're taking control of his whole catalogue.

“So, they asked that we jump on this. We didn’t have to pay or anything like that. We have a good relationship, and that’s why we always say relationships are the best thing you can have and we’re just building more,” Banele said.

On Thursday, 29 February, the twins were helping with alcohol brand, Castle Lite in their launch of a cooler box.
