GENDER-BASED violence (GBV) is still one of the biggest problems in Mzansi.
While the government, police and other organisations are doing their best to combat it, 40 young filmmakers are ready to do their part in the fight against GBV.
Leaders In Motion Academy (Lima), known for producing two international award-winning films, aims to lead the way in the fight against GBV.
Actor Thato Molamu, the founder of Lima, has launched 16 Short Filmmakers Project in 2023.
The project will focus on 40 young filmmakers (16 writers, 16 directors, eight producers) and produce 16 short films under the theme 16 Days of Activism.

"In a country where there's so much inequality, I think we need to develop more conscious leaders in content creation and find a healthy balance in commissioning to tell stories that promote our beautiful and rich culture," Thato said.
He said leadership is an important skill and they want to unlock the true potential of young people.
"Skills like listening, financial management, people skills, risk management and strategy, and this programme aims to develop those skills through film," he said.
Thato believes that sometimes it's better to give someone skills than just food to bridge the gap between the poor and help them become sustainable.
"Through programmes like these, we aim to grow skills in the creative industries, increase investment platforms to reduce the challenges of unemployment and social ills," Thato said.
