YOUTUBER and reality TV star, Lasizwe Dambuza, started from the bottom and now he’s at the top!
The 23-year-old star is on cloud nine after he made it to the Forbes 30 under 30 Africa list.
He made the announcement on social media on Monday, 6 June.
He said he started as a boy from Pimville, Soweto, using just a phone to film his content and he’s now on the list.
Lasizwe dedicated the accolade to his late parents and said he wished they were around to witness it.
“This is basically a dream come true. I’m a kid from Pimville, Soweto who grew up watching TV and thinking that’s the highest place anyone can get to. I now realise it gets bigger than that and that there’s no limit and your dreams are valid,” he said.
“This just validated my dreams to show that whatever you put out in the universe, you can get back and it can come true.”
Lasizwe said he wasn’t expecting to be part of the list as he never envisioned this for his life.
“I wasn’t expecting this at all. when we did the application, there were a lot of issues. My team continued the conversations with Forbes without me, so when I got the email, I was really surprised,” he said.
However, Lasizwe faced backlash from social media when he announced he was part of the list and people asked what the criteria was.
He then explained what the criteria is.
“People on the list are chosen by their accolades. They check if you are a pioneer in your industry and the work you are doing. Are you killing it in your career path and financially, are you a trailblazer? Those are the things that they look at,” he said.
Other South Africans who made it on the list include musician Musa Keys and celebrity stylist Phupho Gumede.
