DISNEY Plus officially launched its highly anticipated anthropology series, Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire, on Wednesday night, 21 June.

The show, also known as Africa’s first-ever sci-fi animation anthology, was launched in Sandton, Joburg where stars such as Pearl Thusi, Nasty C, Howza and Salamina Mosese, Gigi Lamayne, Tyson Ngubeni, Bontle Modiselle, Relebogile Mabotja, as well as Hungani Ndlovu walked the red carpet.

The party, themed on futuristic African visions, was hosted by Smash Afrika and Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena.

Kizazi Moto is a 10-part series that narrates stories featuring new worlds of advanced technology, spirits and much more.

It features African stars such as Florence Kasumba, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Pearl Thusi, Kehinde Bankole, Sheila Munyiva, Nasty C, as well as Sne Dladla.

Candice Modiselle, who's part of the show, said she’s glad to represent black people in the series.

“Growing up, mlack people weren’t represented. Even in your favourite animation, if you can track back to them, they weren’t voiced by people like me, who look like me or sound like me.

“So, to have nuances of our South African identity represented on a global platform is a very big honour and a huge task. I really hope that South Africans and all Africans watch this,” she said.

Another actor, Sechaba Ramphele, hopes Kizazi Moto opens doors for African animators.

“I play in a film called You Give Me Heart. It has been an extremely wild, beautiful and fulfilling experience getting to be part of this. And getting to do it here, with people from here with our vision and creativity, is even greater. I think it’s going to open up a lot of doors for African animators,” he said.

Gigi Lamayne said this is a new space for her, but she's enjoying being part of it.

“This has shown me that I’m not crazy about getting into a new space. It’s absolutely okay for you to own what you are and what you sound like. And I’m extremely blessed to be part of this,” the rapper said.

The anthology animation series will premiere on 5 July on Disney Plus.
