THE sole survivor of the accident that killed amapiano stars Killer Kau and Mpura has spoken out.
Peloyame Segatle (21) was involved in the smash that claimed Khanya “The Voice” Hadebe, Thando Tot, TD Sage and Sanza Mohumi, who was in the other car who was in another car on 7 August last year.
Peloyame was interviewed by Relebogile Mabotja on her show Unpacked With Relebogile on Wednesday, 30 March.
She said she was close friends with The Voice and that’s why she was in the car. She’d never met any of the other accident victims.
“The Voice called me and said he had gigs that weekend. He said he’d appreciate it if I accompanied him to all his gigs. I said, ‘Okay, let’s do it’.”
She packed clothes and they headed to a gig in Pretoria.
“At the time, it was The Voice, Mpura and I. We went to Pretoria and the ride was fun. We were all singing and making jokes. , just laughing.
“Eventually, we arrived at Propaganda club in Pretoria. After their performance, they told me we needed to leave for another gig. We went downstairs to get into our transport,” she said.

“When we left the club, we were five, including me. The other people were Thando Tot and TD Sage.”
She didn’t remember the accident or when Killer Kau got into the car, because she’d fallen asleep.
“I remember we were making jokes in the car and were singing along to the music that was playing. Eventually, I I told The Voice I wanted to sleep. He said he would wake me up when we arrived at Then he said I could sleep on his shoulder, andour destination.”
She said she didn’t know what happened next.
“When I woke up in ICU, I assumed we would all be in the same hospital. The last thing I remember was being in the car with everybody else laughing.”
Peloyame suffered major injuries and was in a coma for a month. When she woke up, with major injuries and still didn’t know what had happened to her. She said she was told all the people she was in the car with had been buried. buried three weeks before.
“I broke down and asked doctors why didn’t anybody wake me up so I could go to my friend’s funeral and say goodbye.
“There was nothing they could do because I was in a coma. I was heavily sedated, so even if they wanted to wake me up, it wouldn’t have been wise.
“I fractured a few bones,I fractured my hip, ribs and clavicle (collarbone). I had internal bleeding, lacerated kidney and liver, as well as hematoma (abnormal collection of blood outside of blood vessel), which got infected and became septic. It was a lot.”
She had to go for therapy and physiotherapy so she could be mobile again.
“I need to give myself credit for the things I’ve overcome because I had survivor’s guilt. As much as what happened was very traumatic, I still have my whole life ahead of me. I’m still going to do amazing things. God has a plan for me,” said Peloyame.
