The leader of the group, Derrick Mlambo said they entered the competition with six songs and competed in the a cappella category.
“Out of these six songs, we received four gold medals and two silver medals. The songs that got us gold medals are My Refuge, Ushobane, Asenze Umehluko, as well as Iphi’ntombi. Mlambo Ngcuka and Peace in the World got us silver medals. On top of this we received five trophies and we were overall winners in our category,” he said.
He said the judges and the audience loved their performances.
“When we left South Africa we were in high spirits, we knew this was an opportunity of a lifetime and so we had to outperform ourselves. The competition was tough, we were up against 67 countries and we all had to sing without instruments.
“But we were confident and we gave our best. Today we’re proud that we represented our country well and brought these gold medals home.
“We are also happy that we took traditional music to the world and the judges, as well as the people from other countries, loved it. At this point in time I can say we left our footprint there,” he said.
