Musician Kelly Khumalo said she won’t water herself down for Christians.

KELLY Khumalo won’t be moved by other people’s opinions and will do whatever pleases her.

The award-winning musician will soon be hosting her first gospel show, called Gospel Explosion.

Speaking about why she decided to do a gospel concert, despite being told to leave the genre after performing a song in just a body suit recently, she said she would not water herself down for others.

“I am not a gospel artist and am not going to water myself down so I can be digestible to a certain group of people,” she said.

“I am the way I am because God created me this way.

“If I am at the show performing one of my songs that people love, I shall perform it in whatever way I am dressed in.

“I am not going to be apologetic because certain people feel uncomfortable. If they need to look the other way, I am not here.”

Kelly said she didn’t care what others said about her.

“My journey is not about people. It is with God ... If God is OK with me, to hell with other people,” she said.

The concert will take place at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City, south of Joburg, on 15 and 16 April.

“I love gospel music and I have always wanted to create a space for people to come and have fun while worshiping," she said.

"People can expect an unforgettable experience of praise and worship. We are going to have fun. I shall be celebrating my journey with God, as he has been with me ever since from the day, I broke into the music industry as it was through a gospel talent competition."

When asked if she would switch to gospel fully, Kelly, who usually makes Afro-soul music, said it was not up to her but God.

“If God says it’s time, then it is time and that is not up to me. For now, I believe I am singing this because the souls God wants me to heal are not in church,” she said.
