DURBAN top comedian and Ukhozi FM contributor, Siphelele Ndlebe, has launched his foundation to help drug addicts.

Ndlebe, who is better known as Kapteni, said his foundation called Woonga Freedom Fighters will focus on helping drug addicts.

The comedian from Chesterville in Durban said he has noticed that in Durban, there are many young people who are abusing drugs.

“The high number of the young people who are drug addicts is shocking, and I believe that many of them can still stop using drugs.

“It is painful to see young people who have a bright future drowning in drugs and some of them wanting to stop, but they don't know what to do,” he said.

On Thursdays, Ndlebe does a feature called RealTalk on Ukhozi afternoon drive show Woza Nabangani Bakho, hosted by Tshatha and Selby.

He said he once launched his foundation before, but it was unsuccessful. He said he hopes this time it will be successful because he has gained valuable knowledge.

“Actually, I started my foundation in 2018 but due to some struggles and for security reasons, I had to pause even though I was pained every time I think about the sufferings that drug addicts experience," he said.

“I paused because I was getting threats for helping people and I ended up not living at home for safety reasons. I have noticed that the challenge of drugs is escalating and now I’m back in full swing.”

He said it is not easy to help drug addicts and it requires a lot of patience because some people don’t understand what he is doing.

“I believe that drug addicts are human too, and they can still change their lives around and stop being drug slaves. They just need help and a second chance.

“We must help them to stop using drugs and become better people in society. By doing so, we will also be helping ourselves because crime will decrease in the townships,” he said.
