T-MUSICMAN has announced its 2022 line-up for the 23rd Joy of Jazz festival, taking take place from 25 to 26 November at the Sandton Convention centre, north of Joburg.
It will consist of one of the most compelling composers and saxophonist from Mozambique, Moreira Chonguica-Irmandande (brotherhood), featuring Jaco Maria.
The festival will also feature a gathering of horn players presented by The Horn Summit, who will be honouring Bra Johnny Mekoe. These horn masters will consist of Khaya Mahlangu, Sydney Mavundla, Prince Lengoasa, Steven Mabona, Mthunzi Mvubu, as well as Malcolm Jiyane featuring Hendrick Monyeki on vocals.
This two-leg event will also have a voice to lead the generations of jazz music in award-winning saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane. He will feature Afrika Mkhize, Sphelelo Mazibuko, Benjamin Jephta and Sphamandla Dlamini.
Dr Sello Galane and Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse will also play amazing tunes for the legacy journey. Singing sensation Gloria Bosman will honour late opera singer Sibongile Khumalo. Other artists include Ringo Madlingozi, Maleh, Thandiswa Mazwai, Selaelo Selota and Jaziel Brothers.

According to chairman Peter Tladi, he will be connecting T-Musicman with the broad society, both locally and internationally.
“It is something we have been doing for many years as producers of historic and cultural events. I provide a platform to musicians to showcase their artistry and flair to entertain the crowd.”
He said that he’s happy to announce the return of the festival. “We have been encouraged by people who have been asking when we are returning the festival since 2019,” said Peter.
Hotstix said: “Covid-19 may have existed in the hearts, minds and souls of our people but it has failed to shred the enthusiasm of jazz music.”
Apart from music, the festival will offer an expo that aims to attract 3 000 visitors and more than 100 exhibitors. It will be open to both concert and non-concertgoers, and highlight the festival’s focus on economic recovery and development.
