THE marketing and commercial director of Kaizer Chiefs, Jessica Motaung was appointed as the first vice-president of the African Clubs Association (ACA) at the launch in Cairo on Thursday, 30 November.

To uplift the professionalism of football clubs around the continent, the President of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), Dr Patrice Motsepe, led the formation of a new association.

The South African beauty pageant champion, sports executive, and television personality was appointed marketing director of the Kaizer Chiefs Football Club in February 2021.

The African Christian Alliance (ACA) is to be led by Young African President Eng. Hersi, with Motaung as his deputy, will focus on the following:
  • Guarantee the financial viability, worldwide competitiveness, and profitability of African football clubs:
  • Ensure the respect, credibility, independence, and world-class quality of referees, match commissioners, and VAR operators.
  • Create alliances with sponsors, businesses, and governments to construct stadiums that meet FIFA and CAF standards, as well as other football-related infrastructure and facilities, in each of the 54 CAF Member Associations.
  • Foster the development of young African talent, establish youth academies for both boys and girls and raise the standard of African club football to a global level.
  • Speaking to Osasu Obayiuwana, an African football journalist, Jessica confirmed her latest appointment.

"This is an extremely important occasion, not only for Kaizer Chiefs but also for African football. I'm honoured to be present and support African football in any manner I can," she said.

"I believe that my ability to commercialise the game is a strength, given the position of African clubs and the potential for obtaining corporate sponsorship and funding for the game, I will collaborate closely with the board and President Motsepe to achieve this goal."

Since her appointment, social media users have been congratulating her.

Joseph Lekalakala said that: "Excellently deserved! She is also performing admirably in her role as Chiefs' director of marketing. Jessica ought to be appointed managing director by Kaizer Motaung Senior. No doubt, then Chiefs will return to their heyday," he said.

Nompumelelo Zagane said Jessica is the greatest at what she does: "Kaizer Chiefs' brand ought to have died a long time ago if it wasn't her effort; she's really the best."
