THIS jazz artist and actor has revealed he has been living with anxiety and depression for 30 years.
But over the years, he has learnt patience as the perfect way of dealing with it.
Mbuso Khoza said even after some artists distanced themselves from him, after they were told that he might kill himself due to his condition, he soldiered on in battling with the mental illness.
Khoza who hails from Eshowe, northern KZN, said that this illness is hard to deal with, but a positive mind makes it easier to manage.

He said coming out about it is another way of trying to get rid of it.
“I’ve learnt to live with depression. It’s not easy but I’m trying. Some of the artists I trusted decided to stop working with me after they were told that depressed people commit suicide. And they were told that I might do it too because this illness is powerful. That was painful but I told myself that I must think positive all the time and refused to be more depressed by how I’m treated,” said Khoza.
He said he will never kill himself.
“I have so much to live for. I’m a father to a beautiful daughter and she needs me as her father. I have young people that I mentor. I have my craft to take care of. Killing myself can never be an option. I’ve taught myself to live in hard conditions,” said Khoza.
The award-winning artist came out about his mental illness in public last week.
He wrote on his Instagram account that anxiety and depression are an outcry for spiritual growth.

He said people need to learn to live with what is in front of them that cannot be changed.
“The more people come out and talk about depression and anxiety the more chances for medical researchers to traverse on new solutions because it differs with its background and how those who are living with it are handling it,” he said.
