THE King Shaka statue will soon be unveiled.
King Misuzulu’s spokesman Prince Thulani Zulu has confirmed the unveiling will take place at King Shaka Airport in Durban on 24 September as the nation celebrates Heritage Day.
Daily Sun understands that the statue is 500 metres tall.
“The statue has already been mounted at the airport.
“Unfortunately, I am unable to give more details but I will be at a meeting on Thursday 15 September for clarity,” said Zulu.
The KZN Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is expected to lead the unveiling.
Its spokesman Nathi Olifant said the department was busy finalising a few outstanding matters.
“We are not authorised to divulge the statue dimension nor reveal the components it is made of.
“The cost and other matters will be shared by the department closer to the official unveiling.”

He said the department worked with various stakeholders during the process of commissioning and sculpting the statue.
“These include the Zulu Royal household, the Airports Company of South Africa,” said Olifant.
He said a meeting between King Misuzulu and MEC Amanda Bani-Mapena took place in August to inform the king of the latest developments.
“We can state with confidence that the Zulu Royal household is satisfied with how the entire process was handled.
“We look forward to the finalisation of the entire process.
“The media will be taken on board through constant updates closer to the key dates,” said Bani-Mapana.
