LEGENDARY musicians will be uniting to celebrate the reopening of the Jabulani Amphitheatre.
Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Abigail Kubeka, Babsy Mlangeni, PJ Powers, Soul Brothers as well as Blondie and Pappa will be sharing the stage at the theatre in Jabulani, Soweto, on Sunday, 25 September for the Legends Concert with Hotstix and Friends.
After being closed for years, the theatre will celebrate its return with a weekend-long celebration.
Hotstix (70) told Daily Sun: “It has been over 40 years since we were all together on the same stage and that is what excites me the most.
“This concert is about celebrating and preserving the 1980s and most importantly, recognising the people who made a contribution to music at that time.”

Hotstix said the artists who were the backbone of the music industry in Soweto often performed at the Amphitheatre in the past.
“It was natural that I invite them. I wanted more musicians to join us, people who made a change in the music industry in the 1980s, but we could only get those on the line-up,” he said.
Hotstix said he felt the youth needed to see these artists on the stage together.
“Young people must come and experience this because I believe they should hear this music right now, while they are still young,” he said.
“Get some life lessons from these musicians before they are old.
“I also think they must come and see how we made music in our day and think about how they can use this music in the future.”

Hotstix said they would also be paying tribute to musicians who had died.
“I always tell my band members that we must remember all the people who have contributed to the music industry. It’s important,” he said.
