WHILE Mzansi is suffering through load shedding, gospel star Lungelo Hlongwane has been experiencing a different type of suffering.
The singer said he has been suffering from a gig shedding for two years.
The 24-year-old singer from Umlazi, south of Durban, got into the music industry in 2018.

He thought he was on the right path as his first song, Qhubeka Nkosi, became a hit.
But everything changed in the blink of an eye.
While he was still enjoying airplay and tons of gigs, the unexpected happened.
His music career went south and gigs became scarce.
Lungelo said he didn’t get even one gig for two years.
“This is after Covid 19 hit Mzansi. It was like I was bewitched or something. I didn’t understand why I wasn’t booked for even one gig. But as a gospel singer, I kept on praying and now things are starting to get better,” said Lungelo.
The singer and preacher is set to perform at the Victorious Worship Experience at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban on Saturday, 22 October.
He said he pinched himself in disbelief when he received the booking and saw the line-up.

“This is my first big gig after two years. I still can’t believe that I will be sharing the stage with big artists like Dr Tumi, Benjamin Dube and Cannan Nyathi. This is big for me,” said Lungelo.
Other artists he will share the stage with include Ukhozi FM presenter and this year’s Crown Awards nominee Phindy P, Xolisa Kwinana, Sebe Nzuza and Xolly Mncwango.
He added that he recently released a song, titled Uyangilwela Ubaba.
“This song is the product of my two year suffering. It means that through anything, God is fighting for me. And He is indeed fighting for me as things are starting to get better for me,” said Lungelo.
