GOSPEL artist Thulani “Gah” Ndlela has graduated with a master’s degree in management and is going for his PhD.
The colourful graduation ceremony was held at Stadio Higher Education Private Institution in Centurion, Pretoria.
Initially he studied music at Durban University of Technology for four years, but had to drop out due to his father’s ill health.
“In 2011, I went back to school and enrolled for a policing degree at Unisa. I took a break in 2014 to promote my debut album.

“When I went back to complete the degree, they had changed the curriculum and I decided to quit,” he said.
In 2016, Gah decided to continue with a policing degree and enrolled with Stadio.
“Some of my modules were not credited, so I took longer to complete my junior degree. I completed it in 2018,” he said.
“I pursued my honours degree and finished it in record time. I started my master’s degree in management, which I finished within two years,” he said.
He said his master’s topic was titled: An investigation on the strategic leadership and risk management used in the SAPS and other law enforcement agencies during the unrest and looting in the province of KZN.
But he said he couldn’t disclose the findings due to the non-disclosure policy.
“I faced a few challenges because people weren’t comfortable discussing the topic,” he said.
Gah is now pursuing his PhD.
“My ultimate goal is to become a doctor. I’m also studying to motivate my kids and the youth. I want to gain as much knowledge as possible. I want to grow and make a positive contribution, not just as an artist, but as an academic as well,” he said.

He encouraged fellow artists to study.
“Covid-19 showed us that without skills we can’t do anything. These days we need to be innovative and create our own wealth. This is almost impossible if we lack education,” he said.
