LEERA Mthethwa wants to see her character on Gomora grow.
The 31-year-old actress, who plays acting school principal Miss Jackie Hlongwane, said the role was supposed to be temporary.
“I initially auditioned for the role of Pretty in 2019 but I didn’t get it. I was called again a day after they started production. They needed a teacher and they asked me to audition,” she said.
“I didn’t cut corners and within hours of that audition, I received a call informing me I had been successful.”
She said she made sure she did a good job so that they would extend the role.
“Eventually, my role was made permanent. It has been three years now and I’m enjoying the character,” she said.

“I am happy to say Jackie’s character is growing. Viewers are still going to get a lot from Jackie, especially now that she has been promoted.”
She described Jackie as a spicy woman who had some gangster in her, but acted calm and collected.
“Jackie is a mystery. I want to know much more about her. I would like to know where she lives, what kind of food she eats, whether she’s seeing someone, a woman or a man, and what her partner does for a living,” she said.
“But I’m not in a rush and I believe her life will be unpacked as the story unfolds.”
Leera said she was not just pure talent as she had trained to be an actor.
“My passion has always been acting. In high school, I did drama and I later went to film school, where I majored in acting. I went to the University of Pretoria and did my honours in stage acting. My long-term goal is to have my own production company where I can nurture talent,” she said.
