MOSHE Ndiki has defended holding a colourful funeral for his dog Sugar, who died at the age of five.
The funeral was attended by Sugar’s teachers, family and close friend.
The actor and media personality told Daily Sun: “I held the funeral for Sugar because I loved him. We were very close and he was my best friend. Now that he’s gone, I am deeply hurt.
“I have noted negative comments from people but I don’t think they understand the connection I had with Sugar. He wasn’t just a dog, he was my baby and that was why I gave him the best send-off.
“I decided on that type of funeral because I want to only have good memories of him.”
He described Sugar as an affectionate dog who loved hugs and kisses.
“He would sit with me on the sofa whenever I was home. During the day, he was attending school in Pretoria. He was also attending aftercare because sometimes, I would work late,” said Moshe.

Sugar was a Toy Pomeranian. The dogs usually cost between R3 500 and R6 000.
“He was three weeks old when I got him. I don’t know much about his family but we bonded from the first day,” he said.
Moshe said tragedy struck when he left Sugar at home to go to work.
“That day, he didn’t go to school. From what I was told, a neighbour’s pit bull attacked him. When I got home, it was too late. He died at home and we had his funeral on Tuesday, 28 June,” he said.
“I’m not bothered by people’s comments because they don’t understand my pain. I will get another pet but I’m not in a rush. When I’m ready, I’ll get another one.”
