THE SABC is calling on the public to nominate people to fill positions of non-executive members on its board.
According to the National Assembly chairman of the Portfolio Committee on Communications, Boyce Maneli, the new members will serve on the board by virtue of their qualifications, expertise and experience in the fields of broadcasting policy and technology, broadcasting regulation, media law, business practice and finance, marketing, journalism, entertainment and education, social and labour issues.
“The board will be committed to fairness, freedom of expression, the right of the public to be informed, as well as openness and accountability on the part of those holding public office. Nominees must be South African citizens permanently resident of the republic,” he said.
Another member of Communication Portfolio in Parliament, Solly Malatsi, told Daily Sun the positions should be filled by 1 November.

“This is a standard procedure that nominations from institutions or public are made. The key thing for us as the portfolio committee is to ensure we get people who are competent, who will provide the right skills so that the board can direct SABC to the right direction,” said Malatsi.
He said the new non-executive board members will focus on the new content creation so exciting programmes are produced.
“The term of the current board is expiring and a new board must be appointed by Parliament,” he said.
The cut-off date for nominations is 6 August.
