THE trial of alleged July unrest instigator Ngizwe Mchunu has been postponed again.
The Randburg Magistrates Court in Joburg granted his lawyer’s request to roll the matter over to Tuesday, 6 December, so he could study documents received from the state.
Prosecutor Yusuf Baba said that he intended to use the documents during the trial.
The former Ukhozi FM DJ is facing charges of incitement to commit violence and violating the Disaster Management Act.
The charges stem from his call for former president Jacob Zuma to be released from prison at a press conference during the violence, and looting that followed Zuma’s incarceration last year.
He also sent numerous voice notes and videos calling on people to “do something”.
He used the phrase “aykhale” in the messages, which the state argues was incitement.
Mchunu, who described himself as a cultural activist, appeared in the dock dressed in full traditional Zulu attire.
Ibutho came in numbers to support the DJ from Nkandla, northern KZN.
In his previous court appearance in October, Mchunu cried when the case was postponedagain.
He told Magistrate Godwin Sadiki that the case was costing him a lot of money and he was forced to sell a number of cows to stand trial in Joburg.
