Lesedi FM Presenter Nkunyana Nkunyana's said he is allegedly abusive.

THE wife of controversial Lesedi FM presenter Nkunyana "Skuzabe"' Nkunyana has broken her silence about the alleged abusive marriage she experienced with the top DJ.

Thakane Ramakau had an exclusive interview with Daily Sun on Friday, 5 April, two days after her husband was arrested for gender-based violence.

Thakane said she has been in love with Nkunyana since 2002, way before he could even think about joining Lesedi FM. The couple later got married and had children.

According to the wife, Nkunyana had allegedly been abusive for a long time.

"What made things worse in our marriage was when he fell in love with a young girl from Botshabelo. I lost a battle in an attempt to separate them. He has been abusive to me. I'm an unemployed mother, and my husband doesn't mind hitting me any time. That wasn't the first time he assaulted me," she said.

Thakane said her husband stayed with a girlfriend around Bloemfontein.

"He came to our house demanding to take our furniture to his new home. When I questioned that, he strangled me and badly assaulted me. This was for the second time he strangled me. The first one happened at my parents' place in QwaQwa. I have been trying to protect his status and sacrificing my happiness," she alleged.

The heartbroken wife further detailed that she had on several occasions went to Lesedi FM, complaining about the presenter's alleged behaviour.

She said she had discussed the matter with different broadcasters in the station, seeking intervention in her situation.

A family friend said the presenter had allegedly developed bad behaviour.

"He has no time for his family. He is always travelling between QwaQwa and Bloemfontein for his part-time job as a DJ," she said.

Nkunyana hasn't been on air since Tuesday, 2 April, when he was supposed to present the popular morning drive show Thakgowa.

The SABC acting group executive: corporate affairs and marketing, Mmoni Seapolelo said Lesedi FM management said they were not aware of the allegations made against the implicated presenter.

"The station can confirm that he didn't present his show, but he reported his absence to management accordingly," said Seapolelo.

Provincial police spokesman Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said a domestic violence-related case of Assault Common was opened at the Bloemspruit Police Station on Tuesday, 2 April and Nkunyana (42) was immediately arrested after that.

The accused appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 3 April and was released on R1 000.00 bail.

"As the South African Police Service we consider cases of Gender Based Violence to be very serious, hence prompt response and appearance of the suspect before a court of law," said Makhele.
