SIMPHIWE Ngema recently took to Instagram to express her feelings about crime in Mzansi.
The actress, who is known for previously appearing on Muvhango, lost her husband, Dumi Masilela in 2017 after he was shot and killed in a botched hijacking in Tembisa.
In a video she posted on Instagram, Simphiwe said violent crime should not be ignored anymore.
“It is a major contributor to our broken homes, families and the poor performance of our economy as a country,” she said.
She said people are scared and law enforcement is telling them how to avoid being victims of crime instead of using resources to fight crime.
“South Africa is not a poor country, we do have resources to address violent and organised crime, but yet again our government has gone MIA,” she said.
She said government claims they are fighting corruption, but they haven’t seen a real plan to tackle it.
“We want to see government fight crime instead of making empty promises during elections,” she said.

Simphiwe said crime has affected her and other South Africans.
“I believe we deserve to feel safe and we deserve justice irrespective of our social status,” she said.
She said crime is not a priority in the country.
“What are we supposed to do as citizens when there is no control over crime. SAPS has a big budget, but the crime is getting worse,” she said.
She said if government priorotises crime, they will be able to raise their kids safely, grow the economy and strengthen the position of the country globally.
“Imagine not being worried about your house not being broken into, your children getting kidnapped or your phone getting stolen while walking. It’s time for government to hear our cry as a country and learn from their mistakes and maybe South Africa will become a better country,” she said.
