THE city of Joburg wants to commemorate Youth Month through various events.
On Thursday, 2 June, it hosted different media houses and personalities to give updates on the shows it would be holding this month. The event was held at NCW restaurant in Melville, with radio host Penny Lebyane as the MC.
Deputy director of Youth Month plan Vincent Maumela told Daily Sun: “We will be celebrating Youth Month in style. We are no longer going to celebrate it only on 16 June.”
He added that they wanted to celebrate it for the whole month, with events that would give young people a chance to showcase their talents.

“We are creating an environment through these programmes to allow young people to perform during our shows. There will also be exhibitions around the arts and creative side,” Maumela said.
He said the main purpose of these events was to allow young people to know their culture and where they came from through museums and galleries that had South African heritage.
Lebyane said her wish was to see young people chasing their dreams.
“Young people must never stop going for what they want in life. They have great minds and must just get the right information from relevant people to reach their goals,” she said.
