ADULTS-ONLY show, The Black Door, has pulled a shocker and announced it will no longer be adult-oriented but will now be a family show.

Starting this week, the raunchy show that was about sex workers and illicit dealings and even starred the controversial entertainer, Zodwa Wabantu, will now focus on family, love, social conversations, culture and tradition.

The e.tv daily show that took over Imbewu’s 9.30pm time slot has been a fan favourite since it began in April and has frequently trended on social media.

Co-creator and writer Mandla N told Daily Sun they would not take away the sexy parts of the show entirely.

“This is not a complete change. We just want to align with some things because when we started there was nudity and obviously South Africans are much more conservative,” he said.

“The market also doesn’t want to just be shocked. They want stories to accompany that feeling of being shocked, and a strong story.”

He said from now, they will be careful with how they show scenes that Mzansi has grown to love. “Remember there’s a difference between flat-out porn, flat-out nudity, so we’ll still be a little risque, but we are catering for families,” he said.

“The characters will get much bigger and we’ll introduce more characters that will create some drama. And of course, there’s a nice, big and juicy storyline that’ll be strong,” he said.

He said Mam Rebecca, played by Linda Sebezo, will continue as the antagonist, but there will be some challenges for her.

“I believe we will still be giving the audience what they need and we are spending a lot of money on the production side of it,” said Mandla.
