THE Hollywoodbets Durban July 2023 winning Jockey, Kabelo Matsunyane (25), donated R20 000 to his former school Khutlo Tharo Secondary in Sebokeng, Vaal on Friday, 18 August.
The R20 000 will help rebuild the school and make it a better place for students and teachers.
Matsunyane said he’s proud to give back to his community and helping his former school finish outstanding projects.
“I chose that school because it was my high school and special because my young brother is currently at the same school,” he said.
The 25-year-old Jockey from Lakeside in Sebokeng said winning the Hollywoodbets Durban July was a dream come true.
“It was a day filled with memories, and I made history and a day that I will forever cherish. I enrolled in becoming a Jockey in 2017, and I have been doing it professionally for six years now, and it has become my profession that puts bread on my table,” he said.
According to Matsunyane, as he had won the Durban July, he plans to be a champion jockey in South Africa and race overseas in Hong Kong or Australia.

Emfuleni Local Municipality MMC for Public Works, Tumi Mochawe, said he is happy that a Good Samaritan has helped the school.
“As of last year, some classes were burned, and that created overpopulation in some classes, but the donation is going to assist the school to rebuild the burned classes,” Mochawe said.
He said that his office is now partnering with Matsunyane and Hollywoodbets to have different sporting facilities at the school.
Matsunyane won the Hollywoodbets Durban in July 2023 with Winchester Mansion, owned and bred by Brett Crawford, Gaynor Rupert, and the Drakenstein sire Trippi.
