Popular Dundee July traditional horse racing event is back with spectators and full activities after a two-year break due to the Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

The 16th edition of the Dundee July will be held at Dundee Horseracing track at Dundee, KZN midlands on 16 July.

The return of the event was announced by KZN Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela during the launch on Friday, 10 June. “This year’s event is expected to exceed all expectations with the addition of a few exciting programmes that will enhance the line-up and offerings to ensure a holistic experience for our patrons.

“The 2022 Dundee July will be open to the public and we expect thousands of horse racing enthusiasts to flock into the venue for a day of exciting horse racing, fashion and entertainment,” she said.

Mavimbela said the theme for this year’s event is “Royalty”, which represents African Royalty and symbolises presence and class.

“Through this theme we are indicating our intention to take the development of the equine industry to even much greater heights. The department will continue to work with stakeholders to further grow the equine industry, which has potential to contribute to economic growth and job creation. This year Dundee July will feature 12 races, including national and international participants.

“We expect at least 400 jockeys and horse owners to participate in the Dundee July including build-up events,” said the MEC.
