HOMELESS nyaope addict Mohau Louis, who is popularly known as Alostro, said he’s been making people rich while slowly dying.

“Smoking nyaope is like paying an unending lobola,” Alostro said.

The 33-year-old, originally from Carletonville, Joburg, decided to change his life and go to rehab.

This is after popular DJ Karabo Success Mokgara, known as DJ Karri, took him off the streets last week.

He took him to a barber, bought him new clothes and booked him into a hotel.

With the help of podcast host Richy B, Alostro was taken to rehab.

Daily Sun was present when Alostro said his goodbyes to his aunt, Priscilla Louis (67), who was found by DJ Karri and his team in order to sign him off to rehab.

Alostro became an internet sensation after motorists took hilarious videos of him making jokes about current affairs.

His aunt told Daily Sun that he ran away from home eight years ago.

“He has been struggling with his addiction for years. He started stealing from us, and when he felt like he had stolen a lot, he then started living in the street,” she said.

She said that they had tried their best.

“He has been to rehab before, but he came out and went back to smoking,” Priscilla said.

She said she's happy that he has finally decided to quit.

“I'm thankful for the people who helped him, and I hope he changes his life for the better,” she said.

Alostro said he is ready to change his life.

“I'm tired of this drug. I'm lucky it didn’t kill me because it has killed all my friends,” he said.

Owner of the Limpopo Anti-Drugs Gangsterism and Crime, Victor Makhura, said they'll be rehabilitating him for free.

“We were told about him, and we are willing to help him for free. When he comes back, he will be doing his music on TV,” he said.

DJ Karri said celebrities should help those in need because they have influence.

“I wanted to give him love and support because these people need us. We celebrities have influence, and God gave us power to change people’s lives through our careers, and we have so many people who follow us who can also help,” DJ Karri added.
