GQOM’s Slenda Da Dancing DJ said she is confident that her future in the music industry is bright.

She’s one of the artists nominated for this year’s South African Music Awards under the Best Gqom Album category for her EP, titled The Journey.

She said the nomination was a great sign. “I am very happy. Now I know that when one prays, God answers.

“My future in the music industry is bright and nothing can stop me from doing what God created me to do. The sky is the limit,” said Slenda.

The musician, whose real name is Sithabile Zungu from Lamontville in Durban, KZN, said she respects artists who are nominated in the same category as her.

She’s nominated alongside Dladla Mshunqisi for Umshunqo Reloaded, Dlala Thukzin for Summer Banger, Bello No Gallo for Khula, and T-Man for Best of the Best.

“I’m nominated with strong artists. I respect them and I know they’re very good at what they do.

“The fact that I’m also the only female DJ that was nominated for this category makes me proud.

“This means that I represent female artists well. This is big for me,” said Slenda.

She thanked Afrotainment boss DJ Tira for mentoring her and guiding her in the music industry.

“DJ Tira is like a father to me. When he talks, I listen because I know he’ll never mislead me.

“I’m very lucky to be under his wing,” she said.
