AMAPIANO DJ and producer DJ Fonzi said her dad, Jacob “Jacky London” Khumalo, taught her all about music.

The 22-year-old, whose name is Fonzi Khumalo, said her dad was her inspiration growing up.

“My dad taught me everything about music. From being a DJ to showing off my skills as an artist,” she said.

DJ Fonzi from Tshwane said she started making music in 2013.

She said she was 13 years old then.

The musician said Jacky London has been behind her all the way, to this day.

She said her dad would take her to some of his day performances so she could learn how to make the crowd move.

“I’m fortunate to have a father like him. I’m a star because of him now.”

In 2013, the musician said she released an album titled Mandela Why You Left Me. She said it was a family group album by the J-Khumalos.

DJ Fonzi said it was followed by Khutsang, her own 13-track album, in 2018. In 2019, she went to study music at Pioneer Institute of Music in Joburg. She said her dad is the one who advised her to study music.

“This is where they taught me about music business.

“They taught us about time management and what is needed from you as an artist, and about booking fees,” she said.

DJ Fonzi said she recently released a single titled Marabastad, and is enjoying a lot of airplay on radio. She said it was released earlier this year.

“Last month I released another banger titled Asalamalakim alongside Jacky London. It’s a greeting song and people love it,” DJ Fonzi said.

DJ Fonzi said she was nominated for Artist of the Year for this year’s Basadi in Music Awards.

She said people should continue voting for her so she could bring the award home.

Fonzi said her wish is to work with famous artists such as DJ Obza, King Monada and Lady Du, because they’re her favourite Mzansi stars.
