THE case involving DJ Maphorisa and his girlfriend Thuli "Thuli P" Phongolo has been postponed until 5 July.

Maphorisa made a brief appearance in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 14 June. The case was postponed as there was no state representatives during the proceedings.

He faces an assault charge after Phongolo opened a case against him at the Sandton Police Station on 7 May. He was arrested on the same day for allegedly assaulting her at his apartment in Sandton, Joburg. He appeared in court on 8 May, where he was granted R4 000 bail.

On Wednesday, 14 June the Abalelele hitmaker, whose real name is Themba Sekowe, arrived at the court with his bodyguards and his management team. They pushed media people away as they did not want to be photographed.

DJ Maphorisa's lawyer also did not want to comment on the matter.

According to NPA spokeswoman Phindi Mjonondwane, Maphorisa allegedly hit Thuli and strangled her at his apartment after she confronted him about an incident that happened the previous night where he was booked to perform.

During Maphorisa's first appearance on 8 May, Phongolo arrived at the court with her team and hid her face from the media. Maphorisa was granted bail and told his bail conditions would remain effective until the charges against him were formally withdrawn.
