DJ Karri’s hit single Trigger has opened up new avenues for him.

The producer-cum-DJ released the single with the #TriggerDanceChallenge.

Karri (35) was approached by the international record label, 5K Records.

Trigger, featuring Lebzito, BL Zero, Prime de 1st, was dropped in December and is still popular.

The UK-based label signed Karri from Hammanskraal, Tshwane, thanks to the song’s success.

He told SunBuzz: “The label tried to contact me and got hold of my manager. We organised an interview and I spoke to them via video call.

“They wanted to sign me as Trigger is big. We agreed on terms and started working. They work with Sony Music UK, and I work with Sony Music Africa as they are here. That makes things a lot easier. It’s a great opportunity as it creates space for me to enter the international arena. For that, I am grateful,” he said.

About how the hit came about, DJ Karri said: “I had been in studio with the guys I featured in a song before and we had released some work together.

“The second time around we got into studio and I told them we needed to try something different. So, we had a beat and had the sneezing effect ready, but there were just no vocals. We added them and I had to test it.

“I played the song at a club and people loved the chorus. So I went back to studio and removed the vocals, only left the hook and the chorus. The message behind the song is about sneezing out all the bad stuff that happened during the pandemic.

“A Trigger Remix is coming soon and will feature a group from the UK.

“I also dropped a new song titled Sanitizer last week and another is coming, soon,” DJ Karri said.
