DJ Hlo opened a can of worms on Thursday, 17 November, when she announced that she had released a song of the year.

Her Facebook post proved that music fans were still holding grudges about what happened regarding the SABC Song of the Year feature in 2021.

Announcing her new song, titled Visa, she said: “Iyaphuma ingoma yonyaka (the song of the year is out).”

The post garnered 17 000 shares and 19 000 comments.

Some comments begged DJ Hlo to not repeat what she did last year when she won SABC Song of the Year for her song Isibani, that music fans claimed they did not know, raising questions about who voted for it.

Other comments said they would never forget the “trauma” they went through after Isibani separated the year.

DJ Hlo, whose real name is Hlosiwe Mthalane, said she believed in the power that her new song had.

“I’ve been bashed from last year after the song of the year competition. But those who bash me think they are bringing me down, not knowing that they are promoting my brand and making me popular. I know that I make good music and I deserve what I have achieved,” said DJ Hlo, adding that those who were asking who voted for her needed not to.

“Those who understand and love my music voted for me, and I’m always be grateful. If I’m selected on the top 10. I urge music fans to show love and vote for me.”
