DJ HLO winning SABC Song of the Year may have caused some controversy, but she is not backing down.

The DJ, whose real name is Hlosiwe Mthalane, told Daily Sun she was aiming to win the competition again.

The Durban-born amapiano DJ recently released a new song, titled Impilo Emnandi.

And she said although it was still early to be eyeing the title, her track would take the music industry by storm.

“I received a lot of negativity in January, but it showed I did something that everyone noticed,” she said.

“It encouraged me to stay in that lane. It also put a spotlight on me as people started trying to find out who I was.

“I also gained many followers on my social media platforms.”

She said her new song was all about encouraging happiness.

“I say let’s focus on making ourselves happy. Let’s focus on only the positive,” she said.

“If I was weak, the backlash could have caused me to quit music but I decided to soldier on. I focused on the positive that the backlash brought me.”

DJ Hlo said the song was gaining momentum on radio stations, and was available on all digital music platforms.

“Let’s dance, be happy and forget all about problems,” she added.
