DIEPCITY actor Siphiwe “Sip” Nkabinde (42) is pursuing music.
Early this year Sip, who plays Mr Xaba on the Mzansi Magic soapie, has released his debut EP titled Amaphupho.
“It’s called Amaphupho because I believe in dreaming. I believe that everything starts with a dream, without a dream there’s nothing we can do. So it is a motivational EP. It encourages people to start dreaming and follow those dreams,” he said.
“All the songs are easy to relate to, for example the song Amasiko encourages people to go back to their roots. We’ve moved away from our roots and become too modernised. In the process we’ve lost ourselves.

“This song is a reminder of where we come from as Africans and it encourages us to preserve our culture,” he said.
The EP has seven songs and he wrote all of them. He also did all the vocals on it.
“I worked with a lead guitarist Thabang Vincent Noosi, while Lungelo ‘Khonza’ Moti plays piano 1 and Katleho Ntokozo Khasela plays piano 2. On the bass guitar I have Sabatha Nkala and I also do the backings.”
He described himself as a professional musician. “I’m from a music background, both my father and my mother are musicians. Unfortunately I hadn’t been able to concentrate on it due to my acting career. However, music introduced me to the industry,” he said.

He said this EP is in Zulu and it is a mix of different genres.
“I’m also excited to mention that this EP has received positive feedback from both local and national radio stations. It is also available on digital stores. People can also order the EP from me.”
