Deekay honours the late Brenda “MaBrr” Fassie with her sound!
The Afro singer and songwriter, whose real name is Dikeledi Letebele, released the rendition of Too Late For Mama on Friday, 19 August.
The singer said she’s doing this to celebrate the icon’s work and contribution to the South African music industry.
Deekay (32) from the Free State told SunBuzz: “The late mama Brenda touched many souls with her music. So doing a house version of Too Late For Mama was to show the world that she might be gone, but she is not forgotten.”
The singer said she’s also celebrating all the good deeds Brenda did.
“I chose Too Late For Mama because it reminds us as woman that we are very powerful. So we must not lose ourselves as women.
“I chose Women’s Month to let women know that we’re the leaders of tomorrow,” said Deekay. said.
The singer said she also released another single titled Bayeke on the same day. Deekay said she worked with Sakhile Majhele on these songs.

She said that Bayeke urges people to not care what other people say about them.
Deekay said she has more than eight songs on digital platforms.
“I have eight of my songs that are available on all digital platforms. They include Ngithanda Wena, Lerato, Jwaleng Mo, and Solomon.”
The musician said she grew up listening to Brenda and Lebo Mathosa.
“I always believed I can sing like them. They are my inspiration, and they were naturally gifted just like me,” she said.
Her wish is to collaborate with legends such as Thandiswa Mazwai and Vusi Nova in the future. She said they can make a good trio together.
