Deborah Fraser - I can't walk!

accreditation

“I’M not acting,

I can’t walk.”

These were the words of legendary gospel singer, Dr Deborah Fraser (56).

The reveal came after a TikTok video of her performing ON a wheelchair was shared on social media.

The video sparked speculation, with some saying she was acting and others suspecting she could be sick.

Speaking to Daily Sun, the Abanye Bayombona hitmaker said she would never pretend to be in a wheelchair as it is not a nice place to be.

The KwaMashu-born singer said she is unable to walk on her own at the moment, which is why she is in a wheelchair.

She said she has been sick and was hospitalised for close to two months between February and March.

“It all began when I started to vomit uncontrollably and I lost my strength.

“Ever since then, I haven’t been able to walk.

“When I try to walk, my movement co-ordination does not function well because when I want to go right, I go left,” she said.

Deborah said it hasn’t been easy for her and she had hoped people wouldn’t see her in the state she is in.

She said the performance people are talking about was a long time ago.

“I can’t walk, but my voice works perfectly. So I had to honour my commitment and perform at that event,” she said.

The gospel singer said she is diabetic and that this is where all this comes from.

She said she is in high spirits and is receiving all the help she needs.

“I’m hopeful that I will walk again. I’m seeing a therapist. I’m due for physiotherapy next week.

“I’m doing way better. That is why I’m able to talk to you now,” she said.

The veteran vocalist has released numerous albums including Abanye Bayombona, which sold over one million copies, Uhambo, Ngikuxolele, Giloria, Isililo and Umsamaria, just to mention a few.

Reacting to the video of Deborah performing in a wheelchair, @Lwandle_mali said: “The day we gonna learn that anything can happen to anyone at any time, we will stop questioning things and accept what we see. It is well mum D.”

@lebm_t: said: “Shocking that she is on a wheelchair and lost so much weight. . . may God heal you, our legend. . . our queen and our mum.”
