DA KRUK has been getting recognition abroad.

The amapiano DJ and music producer, whose real name is Kutloano Nhlapo, told Daily Sun he was recently featured in the BBC documentary This is Amapiano.

The 33-year-old from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, said: “I’m super excited by the reception of the documentary and how it’s portrayed its African creators and creators from disadvantaged and marginalised backgrounds on a global platform.”

Da Kruk said the documentary told the story of amapiano and its quest for global dominance.

It also features Kamo Mphela, DBN Gogo, Felo Letter and Major League DJz.

He said it featured young South Africans authentically telling their stories, in spite of all the hardships and stumbling blocks they encountered daily.

“I wear many hats but I’m mainly a DJ, music producer, radio host and culture enthusiast. I’ve been in South Africa’s entertainment industry for over 11 years now,” he said.

Da Kruk said he wanted the story of amapiano to reach the ears of people who knew the sound but not its background.

“We’ve also got a radio documentary dropping on BBC 1Xtra alongside DJ Edu in the coming weeks. I’ll be releasing some new music for the summer. I will also be throwing my Magic Day Club parties throughout the summer,” he said.
