Happiness Thabile Dladla said she wanted to change the narrative social media has about people who live in shacks.

CONTENT creation is a new big thing as many creators try to show off their luxurious lives.

This content creator is as real as it gets.

Happiness Thabile Dladla creates mini vlogs showing what she gets up to in a day, and many social users have shown love for her videos.

The 21-year-old from Tembisa, Ekurhuleni lives in a shack and is proud of it.

She told Daily Sun that when she started content creation, she knew she would do it from the space she is in.

“I knew that I didn’t have to have a bigger house or a better house. I can start anytime I want. That’s what inspired me,” she said.

She said she decided to show her space after seeing social media users commenting negatively on someone who bought a car while living in a shack.

“I wanted to change that narrative that social media has. It doesn’t mean if you live in a shack you can’t afford certain things. I am not saying that living in one is a luxury, but you can find that you have R5 000 in your account and need to buy something urgently, like a laptop. You can’t let your job suffer because you live in a shack,” she said.

She said that even though she wants to live in a better house, she appreciates her shack.

“No one loves to live in a shack, but we appreciate living here because we have a roof over our heads,” she said.

She said that social media also thinks people living in shacks are poor.

“We are not poor but simply trying to afford better houses,” she said.

Happiness said people need to learn to be grateful.

“People like hiding the truth. I am grateful that I can wake up every day warm, take a bath, eat, sleep, and know that I am safe. Someone out there is crying for this comfortable place that I am in,” she said.

She said she feels scared now that people are reacting to her content.

“I am so scared because I didn’t know that people would show love. I thought they would judge me,” she said.
