EVEN though he is paid to make people laugh, he believes he's also human and can get hurt by negative comments on social media.
The host of Comedy Central's Most Ridiculous with Mpho "Mpho Popps" Modikoane said people who comment negatively on social media aren’t fans or supporters.
The 37-year-old from Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, has hosted shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, The Perfect Seshebo and Spirit of Mzansi.
Talking to Daily Sun, he said he can’t just laugh off trolls.
“Most of the people who have negative things to say about you on social media are usually trolls. It's never people who are in the same league as you or doing better than you,” he said.
“Sometimes when you are seeing all these comments you have to ask yourself where they stem from and at the end of the day, as a sane person, you also have to realise that you can’t let the opinions of people who don’t matter bother you,” he said.
“I don’t go on engineering forums and criticise people for the way they build bridges because I know nothing about engineering. But entertainment has made people feel like they can shine and just speak negativity,” he said.
He said he won't give his time or energy to negativity.

“I know that it stems from people who aren’t in my field of work and it's people who aren’t there for the betterment of the thing. There's constructive criticism, which any creative artist will receive, we will take it. But when someone comes on social media to bash you and tell you how horrible you are, okay why don’t you go make your own thing?” he said.
He said he's excited about his current show on Comedy Central.
“So far, I've had nothing but exciting guests. I think the environment that we have on set is magical in terms of the production team,” he said.
He said that it means the world to him being the host.
“I guess for me I'm more interested in doing the things that build the infrastructure of comedy in South Africa,” he said.
